چکیده

Rates of poverty and economic inequality in rural Alabama are among the nation's highest increasing agricultural productivity can provide a needed boost to these communities. The transition from rain-fed irrigation-fed (RFtoIF) agriculture has significantly increased farm profitability elsewhere United States. Despite this potential enhance stability resilience economies, irrigated cropland accounts for only 5% Alabama's total as numerous barriers remain irrigation adoption. To encourage RFtoIF transition, it is imperative identify challenges faced by individual farmers at farm, community, state levels. This study presents multi-level mixed effects survival analysis physiographic, socioecological, factors that influence location timing We integrate spatiotemporal climatological data with field-verified locations center-pivot systems, local physiographic characteristics, parcel-level surface water access average well depth. Access water, costs groundwater, soil characteristics were generally important influences all regions, but regions differentiated extent which new was more responsive social vs. precipitation price trends. Our findings also highlighted diversity farming conditions across state, suggested diverse policy tools acknowledge varying motivations constraints farmers.

Investigation of infiltration in Center Pivot irrigation system

Use of the double ring infiltrometer to measure soil water infiltration in center pivot irrigation systems isn’t an accurate approach because the real conditions of infiltration under center pivot sprinklers is different from what happens in the double ring. In this study the infiltration parameters were evaluated in real conditions of a center pivot system. For this purpose a single ring...

Wireless Sensor Network Effectively Controls Center Pivot Irrigation of Sorghum

Automatic irrigation scheduling has been demonstrated using wired sensors and sensor network systems with subsurface drip and moving irrigation systems. However, there are limited studies that report on crop yield and water use efficiency resulting from the use of wireless networks to automatically schedule and control irrigations. In this 2011 study, a multinode wireless sensor network (WSN) s...

The effect of irrigation water quality on soil properties under center pivot irrigation systems in central Saudi Arabia

A field experiments were conducted for three growing seasons (2007 to 2009) at five different sites of soil types and salinity levels. Five different ground water qualities were used to irrigate five fields each with area of 50 to 54 hectares planted with wheat crop and the irrigation system used at each field was center pivot sprinkler system. The irrigated fields were located at different loc...
